Closing the Achievement and Opportunity Gap
One third of students and community members under the age of twenty-five are Latino/a. Across Sonoma County, many of our Latino/a students are still not being offered the education they need to succeed in college, and in a career. We have insufficient access to early childhood education. Our schools need to work on having an engaging and welcoming school environment, specifically to parents and families who may not be familiar with their role in their child’s education. Students with additional needs, such as English learners, migrants, and undocumented students, face additional obstacles. My goal is to continue to work with our local schools to ensure that our students in need have the support they need and access to the programs that are proven to work to strengthen our community.
