The Local Control Funding Formula has shifted the way funds are distributed to schools in California. What we need to be clear about was that it was only a shift to how we distribute funds in our state. While this shift was necessary, and provided a more equitable way of funding our schools, it did not increase funding and many of our local schools have lost funding in the process. As your SCOE Board Trustee, I will carry the message to Sacramento, and Washington D.C. as necessary, that we must continue to increase funding for education. California is the fifth-largest economy in the word, yet we fall far behind in per-pupil funding. To be exact we still are in the bottom 33% of state funding this is unacceptable. I have been fighting for education funding for nearly twenty years at the local, state, and national levels, and will continue to fight for what our children need and deserve.
